Every year, cancer survivors around the world are celebrated in the month of June, and this year, the Foundation for Cancer Care hosted members of the Dewdrops Support Group of Lakeshore Cancer Center, to an afternoon of learning relaxation and fun.
The event which held on the 25th of June 2022 at Lakeshore Cancer Center, Victoria Island had in attendance, cancer survivors from the Dewdrops Support Group and their caregivers in attendance.
The keynote address for the event, which was delivered by Dr Oge Ilegbune, Board Advisor for the Foundation for Cancer Care stressed the importance of providing support for cancer survivors through avenues such as the national survivors month, as this presents an opportunity for survivors to be heard and to tell their own stories about surviving cancer.
The survivors enjoyed an interactive session with Mr. Babatunde Soteye of Carib Health as he took them through a discussion on nutrition and diet and how to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle for improved health. The survivors also had a session with Dr Mutiu Jimoh, a radiation oncologist at Lakeshore Cancer Center, who encouraged the survivors about being advocates of early cancer screening to foster early cancer detection and improved cancer survival rates.
The highlight of the event was the sharing of survival stories by some of the cancer survivors, to encourage one another that cancer is not a death sentence and with the dedication to treatment, determination to overcome, and the right mindset, anyone can beat cancer.
The survivors enjoyed fun activities such as treasure hunt, social painting session, food, drinks and music.
